Inspired by the bold, kinetic compositions of mid-century airline poster artist David Klein, Fly TWA: Hell’s Kitchen imagines Manhattan’s now-beloved neighborhood rendered in the exuberant civic glamour of circa 1960. Planes streak across saturated skies; neon glows against brick façades; restaurants and bars hum beneath Broadway’s bright promise.

Though Hell’s Kitchen’s identity as a vibrant LGBTQ enclave is largely a late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century phenomenon—just steps from the Theater District—it feels, in retrospect, inevitable. This poster offers a playful what-if: a jet-age celebration of community and nightlife, as though the neighborhood’s welcome had been marquee-worthy all along.
